Smaller audience for Cousins doco II

Posted by: 3AW Radio | 27 August, 2010 - 9:28 AM

REPORT: Part two of Ben Cousins' Such Is Life documentary drew a national audience of 1.7 million on Thursday night, down from 1.99 million on Wednesday night.

Last night 685,000 people watched in Melbourne, compared to 318,000 in Sydney. On Wednesday night the numbers were similarly portioned: 781,000 people in Melbourne to 355,000 in Sydney, according to a Fairfax report.

Many anti-drug experts have said the documentary has provided little value in terms of sending a message to addicts around Australia.

However, the talkback lines around the country have gone into meltdown talking about the documentary.

Neil Mitchell - Should Cousins be deregistered today?

Brian Taylor - My sons think it's OK to take drugs after watching

  • So many are missing the point. This was a doco about Ben Cousins and his battle with drugs ... not other drug addicts. Drugs don't discriminate and can effect anyone, even elite sportspeople like Ben.

But what moral crusaders like Neil Mitchell hate most is that the doco exposed the myths of recreational drugs. Ben was able to function for years whilst using drugs. It wasn't the drugs that got Ben Cousins, it was his over use. If he had slowed down or quit, no one would have even known.

  • Give the guy a break, would you still be harping on if he didn't do this documentary and retired from football?
