Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles has paid tribute to his Turkiye counterparts, who continue to commemorate the Australians who died during World War I.

Marles, who is at Gallipoli for this year’ ANZAC Day observance, noted just how unique the relationship between the two countries is.

“I think it’s a really important insight (into what happened),” he told Tom Elliott ahead of the dawn service at Gallipoli.

“The commander (from Turkiye) spoke about those who died at Gallipoli and are buried there, were now part of that country too.”
