Friday 18th March

Owners of the ever-popular St Ali in South Melbourne have branched out, opening a noodle bar in South Yarra cheekily called Mopho. It’s in Yarra Lane, a stroll from Toorak Road under some serviced apartments, and just by South Yarra station. Wandered by yesterday and tried some spicy Shanghai noodles with scallops, crispy bacon and sambal oelek, and the old reliable Pad Thai. Will get back in soon and report back in more detail.

Today (Friday 18th March ) is Sustainable Seafood Day, and I just hate an excuse to get out and enjoy some fresh, local seafood! One venue making the most of this new campaign is the Albert Park Hotel Oyster Bar and Grill. For the month of March they’re putting on a set lunch menu of sustainable delights, at $35 for two courses, or $45 for three, including a glass of wine. I’m a definite to try to the wild mushroom & Cloudy Bay clam chowder, or the local snapper pie with Provencal mash.

Speaking of seafood, I believe Donovan Cooke’s much anticipated Atlantic may have had a very quiet opening at Crown in the last week. They’ll no doubt be getting everything right before making a bit more of a song and dance about things, so could be a good time to get a booking before the rest of Melbourne notices!
