Terror suspects headed here?

Posted by: 3AW Breakfast | 2 January, 2009 - 9:21 AM

Terror suspects held at the US military prison in Guantanamo Bay could be secretly resettled in Australia within the year.

US authorities have approached Australia and Britain about resettling detainees of the notorious prison, located at a US sovereign naval base in Cuba, in the wake of President-elect Brack Obama's plan to shut the prison within two years.

Political head-kicker Andrew Bolt provides his opinion on the possible re-settling of Guantanamo Bay inmates, saying - with tongue in cheek - Obama is 'god'.

Federal Opposition Leader Malcolm Turnbull has also publicly slammed the proposal.

Providing balance to the issue, 3AW Drive's Peter Maher sought the opinion of David Manne, Rufugee and Immigration Legal Centre, who argues a lot of the people held captive at the facility have never been proven guilty of any wrongdoing and as long as the government performs rigorous checks, the resettlement can go ahead.

Why they SHOULD be allowed in

  • Dear Andrew, first of all,in reference to your above" comments, who is Brack Obama? and secondly, what concrete evidence you have of spectulating this "rubbish" of transfering these people from Guantanamo Bay to Australia.....lets face it,you could`nt even spell the President`s elect name correct!! I suggest going by your track record, that this has something to do with being an anti-Rudd/Gillard. And you know something else, your comments will never become "fruitition" as the majority of Australians do NOT want ant terrorists here especially SECRETLY!.....I`m convinced your comments will NEVER happen.....100%.
