Just ask Jane

Listeners wanting plants – can anyone help
Hibiscus 'Lemon Ray', yellow with a pink fleck
Azalea 'Alanna’s Joy'
A chilli called Bhutjolokia – the worlds hottest chilli pepper
A photinia that has gone mad – it is a good hedging plant but does need to be pruned hard. If you cut it back it will produce nice new spring growth.

Pruning a fuchsia – tip prune to keep it bushy now and harder prune in early spring.

Radicchio – easy to grow in pots and in the ground. There are lots of different varieties and sometimes you see it sold as Radicchio or Chicory or Endive

  • trying to find 'grow bags' as discussed in "the australian' saturday august 7th by Holly Kerr Forsyth. She has used them in Sydney to grow potatoes in. As we are limited with garden space these look like a great idea. Have checked the net, all local nurseries, Linton's etc but no luck. Any ideas? Great show to listen too, thanks Maureen Anderson

  • Hi Jane
Can you please describe your rocker (again) that you rave about.
I know it's from Bakka design and have looked on their website.
Is that the one pictured on their site?
    Many thanks

  • Hi Jane,
last week I heard a caller looking for seeds for a white squash. I would be most grateful to hear where we can get some. Perhaps a listener has kept some. I used to buy some at a Christmas fundraiser in Mont Albert in November,so it could be an early variety. It was always difficult to find in shops. The friend who introduced me to this squash is italien, it tastes wonderful. Thanks for your trouble, we might get lucky.
Thank you for all you do for us novices, we rely on you all the time, Maria

  • Hi Jane, we have 3 very large Maple trees in our garden they are about 10 meters in height. They are currently loosing their leaves for Autumn. We want to prune them back. Could you let us know if we have to wait until all the leaves have fallen before we cut them back. Also, how much can we cut them back in height?
    Thank you. Angie
