The Eastlink speed camera debate
The Neil Mitchell program has received hundreds of calls in relation to what could be at least one faulty speed camera on Eastlink.
Neil told his listeners on Tuesday he remains to be convinced the Traffic Camera Office's assertion the cameras are working as they should is, in fact, the case.
A former police officer is the latest to tell Neil the cameras are faulty - his story included in the audio in the media player above.
The program has now launched an investigation into the issue.

Eastlink camera in the clear
Police have conducted 55,000 tests on an Eastlink speed camera which was the source of dozens of complaints by 3AW listeners, finding no fault with it.

I am another victim of eastlink dodgy cameras! On 9th may I was detected doing 109, and charged with doing 107km. I KNOW I wasn't speeding, as I was sitting on about 99km, and I have my speed alert set to 101km on my GPS. I am a single Mum of 3 young ones, and a full time uni student, and as such don't have the means to fight it. The $142 I have to unjustly pay will mean no treats for my children or myself for 7 weeks, as After expenses I only have $20 a week left over for McDonalds or ice creams or outings. I HATE this guilty until proven innocent system, it particularly discriminates against financially disadvantaged people :(

what's going on here?? After receiving a fine today for a detected speed of 108 kph and alleged speed of 106 kph I was adamant that I didn't speed because I always set my cruise control on Eastlink. I typed in 'faulty speed camera Eastlink and got to this website and comments, the date of offense was 12 June, conveniently around the time of everyone else fines and posts for the same speed detected and so called caught on the Wellington Road underpass camera. 3AW PLEASE pick up this topic and take it further...we're still getting booked it's like a conspiracy. These cameras are randomly picking vehicles and branding them with the infamous 108 / 106 speed. Please help stop this...it's clearly out of control!

Just got a fine for the Eastlink Wellington Bridge southbound, with the same detected 108 Km/h with an Alleged Speed of 106km/h. I don't believe that we were speeding due to having both cruise control which I nearly always use, GPS which alerts me to speeding, and we weren't in a hurry to get home. I seriously doubt that this fine is fair and just.

I have now joined the ranks of those that have been detected on the Eastlink doing a detected speed of 108km/h and Alleged Speed 106km/h. The fines were on 11th May and 1 June 2009 Keysborough, northbound, Dandenong Bypass Bridge. The 1st June one arrived today. I, like the others, know the cameras are there and have cruise control set just below 100 in my 1008 VE Commodore, as well as my GPS active.
It seems, from what others have said here, that it is waste of time disputing it and I just have to pay. I find it ludicrous that they are denying any problems when for a VERY long time most of the fines have been the infamous Detected 108km/h and Alleged 106km/h!
I am occassional user, but I am considering staying away in future. No wonder people are staying away indroves, if this is the result. I suppose they think we are all stupid and don't check what is happening to others. The internet is a wonderful thing and maybe someone should suggest it to these beaurocrats!
My wife uses Eastlink 3 days a week and has taken to doing only 90km/ on a 100km/h road for fear of being fined for doing the speed limit!
I hope sensibility prevails soon and they fix the , so called, no existant problem!Tom Thursday 18 June, 2009 - 2:09 PM -
I was fined for doing 115Km. and i owne a 2002 comadore that has speed alert and it has never gone of on the east link. it is set at 105Km/Hr. . I have not had a speeding fine for over 7 years nd have hade to pay it even though i know i was now speeding. I was told that to contest it would cost more than the fine . Also mi could not reregester. my car if it was out standing.
This was in mid may and donot think it is fair.

After recieving a couple of 64 in a 60 zone tickets I have taken to driving everywhere with Cruise Control on. I drove from Cheltenham Road to Canterbury Road and back in early May, going through the Wellington Rd Cameras both ways at 102 on my cruise control, I got a ticket for 108 in the southerly direction, it does not stack up.
