HINCH EDITORIAL: And the count goes on.

The polls closed an hour from now five days ago and yet in several close seats the votes are still being counted. You would think the count would be going from dawn till dusk but in some close seats counting yesterday didn't start until the afternoon.

And in Denison, that close seat which looks like it has gone to the Independent Andrew Wilkie, they apparently opened all the postal votes at noon yesterday and places them all face down and then started counting them.

You would think both tasks could have been done at the same time and saved time.

As of last night two million votes remained to be counted nationwide.

And when it's all done then there are likely to be challenges and recounts and possibly even court action. Last election Fran Bailey’s seat went to the High Court.

So what's the state of play.

The latest Shows Hasluck out west going to the Liberals. Corangamite still too closed to call but leaning Labor and Brisbane – which has see-sawed since Saturday night shows the sitting Labor member halving the Liberals lead on the postals.
