To Crush or Not To Crush?
PLAYING NOW: Ross and John with Police and Emergency Services Minister Bob Cameron on today's car crushing. Click on the audio links below for more comment and interviews.
Dangerous drivers are being reminded today - police have the power to seize their cars and, in extreme cases, have them destroyed.
Senior police, emergency workers and the Police Minister are on hand this morning at a Dandenong South steel recycling plant to oversee the crushing of a repeat offenders car.
Tom Elliott and Justin Smith debated the merits of crushing cars as a deterrent of hoon behaviour.
Norm Robinson, who lost his son is speed-related accident and features in a current road safety campaign, also spoke to Justin and Tom to get his thoughts on whether this approach will work.

AUDIO: Tom Elliott and Justin Smith debate the issue
AUDIO: Ken Lay 'these cars aren't safe in the community'
What do you think? Do you think crushing cars will work?

Crushing of hoons cars should not be for extreme cases. This punishment should be mandatory for second/third offence hoons, only then will these morons take the safety of our roads seriously when they see their prescious cars crushed in front of them. Well done VicPol!!!!!

A repeat offender hoon driver has forfieted their right to drive on our roads. Having their car crushed is all these morons will understand to make them realise that society will not tolerate their stupidity and total disregard for others safety. This action is long overdue.
