Truck drivers fired up over bans

Truck drivers putting us at risk?

A move to ban trucks from using the right lane on certain highways has been welcomed by the state's peak motoring body.

The Princes Highway, between the Ring Road and Lara, and the West Gate Freeway, outbound from Williamstown Road, will be among the first roads to have the ban introduced from July.

The RACV's Brian Negus says it's a good move to improve road safety.

Truck drivers who ignore the new restrictions willbe slapped with a $350 fine, however they will not lose demerit points.

The car PHOTO GALLERY: A 3AW Drive listener tells his tale of near-death to Hinch on Thursday. David's dream of cruising in an open-top red V8 sports car on a sunny day came true but was then shattered when a truck apparently run over his vehicle on the Monash Freeway. Emergency services are amazed he lived to tell the tale.

  • To all drivers keep up or keep left! Don't whinge about being tailgated just keep left! If you haven't noticed, nobody tailgates the people in the left! We tailgate dumb-s#17s who drive slowly in the right. For that matter I never find truckies abusing the right lane I seem to always find young ladette's driving powerful cars at embarrassingly low speeds. There is no point using the right lane if you are simply going to match speeds with the left! Another problem facing young women is the inability to merge lanes, they use zips all day long and yet they just can't zip-merge what an absolute disgrace. If the car next to you is in front just let them go it doesn't bloody hurt. Truck drivers go ahead and use the right lane it's a stupid request to ask a 50 - 70 tonne behemoth to constantly start and stop. We light vehicles operators are nimble and we can work around you. Damn these idiots there shouldn't even be a discussion about this have some bloody common sense people you don't see battle cruisers moving out the way for patrol boats, you give way when a bus indicates to go into the right lane well trucks should have the bloody right too!

  • you get what you vote for. bring in laws that are useless from incompetent politicians so business can increases their prices. if police werent tax collectors hiding behind speed cameras and were patrolling the roads and enforcing the law (keep left unless overtaking) for all road users. the politicians could concentrate on what they were elected for and that is to FIX our HOSPITALS, SCHOOLS, CRIME, TRANSPORT SYSTEM...TWEEDLE DEE and TWEEDLE DUM

    We elect them
    We pay them
But they work for big business.

  • Has anyone asked why trucks often travel in the right hand lane??

its more about safety, the vehicles entering at different points do not take any care, they just drive in to the lane without a care, and the amount of vehicles sitting in the middle lanes doing far less than the speed limit is out of control, if slow moving vehicles stayed in the left lane instead of being so bloody minded the traffic would flow. There are some moronic truck drivers out there who have no respect for anyone,so be for you start on us truck drivers TAKE A DAMM GOOD LOOK AT THE DAMM CAR DRIVER 1ST yes im a truck driver and the ONLY time i be in the right lane is to get around vehicles sitting in the middle lanes doing far less than the speed limit is OMG Truck drivers who ignore the new restrictions willbe slapped with a $350 fine, however they will not lose demerit points. so y not slapped with a $350 fine vehicles sitting in the middle lanes doing far less than the speed limit is

  • Car speedos are usually out by up to 10%, meaning trucks will have to sit behind cars doing ninety something in the middle lane while the third lane is free, or if the car feels so intimidated that it moves right the truck then has to illegally undertake it or remain at the original speed. that sounds like safety... Incidentally as trucks are 100km/h limited who are we holding up. the only people in the right lane will be law breakers, either speeding or not keeping left unless overtaking as the trucks in middle lane will be doing 100km/h already.

  • Well isn't Jason just the bright spark. He is happy to put people's lives at risk JUST to prove he is right.
Well done Jason, you must be so proud of yourself.
This just proves that we MUST ban trucks from the right lane even if it is to save themselves from stupidity!!!
