What now? Michael Jackson's children
Following the death of Michael Jackson and the imminent squabble over
the remains of his fortune, the question to be asked is what will
become of his children?
Jackson is survived by three children; a son - Michael Joseph Jackson Junior (also known as "Prince") born in 1997, a daughter - Paris Michael Katherine Jackson born in 1998 and Prince Michael Jackson II (also known as Blanket) born in 2002.
Jackson fathered his first two children with Debbie Jeanne Rowe, whom he married and subsequently divorced in 1999. Rowe granted full custody rights of the children to Jackson.
His youngest son was the result of artificial insemination from a surrogate mother and his 'own sperm cells'. The mother's identity has never been released.
Jackson has always resisted accusations that his first two children who are fair-skinned were not biologically his quoting "I used a surrogate mother (for Blanket) and my own sperm cells. I had my own sperm cells in my other two children. They are all my children."
It is unknown who will care for the children, but reports say Jackson's ex-wife Debbie Rowe is expected to receive initial custody pending long-term arrangements.
Michael Jackson's 'fortune':
Reports of Jackson's financial difficulties first surfaced in 2006 after the closure of the main house on the Neverland Ranch as a cost-cutting measure due to the failure to make repayments on a $270-million loan secured against his music-publishing holdings.
Jackson agreed to a Sony-backed refinancing deal, although details were not made public. The series of comeback concerts scheduled to commence this July in London would have cleared his debts.
At the time of his death, Jackson still owned an unknown stake in the Neverland - now known as Sycamore Valley Ranch - as a joint venture between Jackson and Colony Capital LLC. The loan Jackson owed was cleared, he acquired $35 million in the venture.
