Mystery shrouds hit and run

Investigators are trying to determine why the victim of a hit run in Noble Park on Tuesday night was lying on the road in the first place.

A female motorist saw the man on Heatherton Road, near Kelvinside Road, around 10.30pm and tried to warn other motorists.

But one driver struck the man and fled the scene.

The victim suffered critical head injuries.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brad MacArthur from the Major Collision Investigation Unit wants to speak to anyone with information about the driver who failed to stop.

Top cop in five-car crash

One of Victoria's top police officers has been involved in a five-car collision at Dandenong this morning. Police confirmed that Assistant Commissioner Luke Cornelius had been involved in the pile-up at about 8.30am.
