Nick Riewoldt will lead St Kilda again in 2012

UPDATE: St Kilda captain Nick Riewoldt will be supported by a seven-player leadership group this season.

Brendon Goddard, Ben McEvoy, Adam Schneider, Leigh Montagna, James Gwilt, Sam Fisher and Nick Dal Santo are co-leaders of the club with Riewoldt.

However, longtime vice-captain Lenny Hayes will step down from his role to become a "leadership mentor" as he focuses on his return from a knee reconstruction.

Riewoldt says he's very honoured to lead the club again in 2012.

EARLIER: Nick Riewoldt will again be named captain of St Kilda at a media conference on Wednesday afternoon, according to journalist from The Age and 3AW Football, Caroline Wilson.

The Saints' skipper had the endorsement of new coach Scott Watters and has now reportedly been endorsed by his St Kilda team-mates.

The 29-year-old has been captain of the club for the previous five seasons and is believed to have been given the nod to lead again ahead of gun veteran Lenny Hayes and Brendon Goddard, who has only one season left on his contract.

Riewoldt had an average year by his standards in 2011 after St Kilda's now infamous, tumultuous off-season between 2010 and '11.

The 29-year-old was quoted last year as saying whether he was captain or not he would still be a leader of the club, and not change his leadership style in any way.

St Kilda will hold a media conference at 12:30pm on Wednesday, ahead of the Annual General Meeting later that night.
