Con-woman cons court too?
I want to go back to a news story that seems to have everything. A conniving con woman. A randy married man looking for some sex on the side. A bogus case of cancer.
Eighteen thousand dollars spent on a boob job and other cosmetic surgery. A $50,000 blackmail attempt. A court that I believe got conned into a suspended sentence. And, sadly, an eight-year-old girl in the middle of it.
Enter the world of 30-year-old Jaimi-Lynn Carlin. She met a man on the Internet. For some reason his name has been suppressed. He wanted a sexual relationship. She said she had ovarian cancer and needed money, a lot of it, for treatment of life-threatening diabetes. She actually had her breasts enlarged. And then tried to blackmail her would-be paramour for another $50,000 to stop her telling his wife.
He finally went to the Police. Flash forward to the County Court.
Carlin pleaded guilty to charges of obtaining property by deception and blackmail.
Judge Barbara Cotterell sentenced her to 20 months in jail but totally suspended it. Carlin arrived in court an hour late and sobbed through the proceedings. From what I know I suspect they were crocodile tears.
The judge stressed the suspended sentence was not an order of leniency. She called the crimes 'a calculated and callous attempt to extort money from someone who had shown you enormous generosity'.
Then Judge Cotterell said: "Continue your rehabilitation, take control of your life and care for your daughter." The child save the con woman from going behind bars.
But I wonder how much the judge actually knew about Carlin’s domestic situation. That until a few months ago the little girl’s father had her week on week off?
And even last weekend picked the child up from school on Friday and returned her to school on the Monday?
He didn’t know anything about the cancer scam or the court case until he heard it on 3AW news and on my program yesterday. Methinks a clever conniving self-centred con woman has struck again.

Thank you Jed, your right, someone who can finally see some sense... Maybe HINCH should be fighting to have his supression order lifted not put this women in Jail.. HINCH if you are the reporter that find's the TRUTH and fights for justice. there is an idea for you!!! Would be interesting listing his juicy past!!! Then you can cast your option and lead others with an educated option from both sides... Yes i wish she would speak up but i am sure she would be crusafied before she opened her mouth, also she cant speak as a suppression order is stopping her...

I be very interested in hearing her actual story instead of the media's version. There are always 2 sides to every story and i think its terrible that his name is not ruined like her's has been. From what i've read he's got a history and criminal record for doing this sort of thing.

You people are only commenting because quite clearly you have never been in this situation... I on the other hand have!!! a man who has it in his head that you will be his is very hard to get away from, in any case!! you condem her for being in a "defacto relationship"!!! what about the lying cheating husband who continues to stalk women on a dating website! and will probably do it again and prob had before!!! This man asked for everything he got!!! Any cheating husband who offers to pay to hide his infedelity is scum... Any proof she actually took the money?? thats what i would like to see... just a shame we cant hear both sides of the story, just some reporter who made something out of nothing!! and a smart man who made sure he covered is backside so the media or this girl cant bring this peice of scum undone!!
