Father Bob and Hinch lock horns

Father Bob

A controversial embezzlement case implicating Father Bob nearly 20 years ago re-emerged on the Drive Program with Derryn Hinch after a weekend newspaper article dug up the past.

The 3AW presenter has always alleged Father Bob was 'complicit' in receiving laundered money from disgraced priest and pedophile Vincent Kiss from 1984-1990.

Father Bob admitted long ago he received money from Kiss for his charity, but has continued to vehemently deny that he was aware of the illegal activities happening behind the scenes.

The popular South Melbourne Parish Priest, who will be forced out of his role at the start of February, joined Hinch on Drive in the hope he would receive an apology for what Father Bob says are 'baseless' accusations.

Derryn refused to say sorry and the exchange went sour, with Father Bob calling Derryn the 'Devil's Advocate'.

  • You should be ashamed of yourself Derryn Hinch. During your recent life threatening illness I think someone was praying for you... My guess is it was Fr. Maguire. Well you got a miracle.

  • The best thing I have ever heard on this radio station is Father Bob hanging up on Derryn Hinch.
I have been privileged to have spent some time with Fr Bob over the last two weeks and find him to be a fine man of good character, so I am glad to see him give Horrible Hinch the spray he deserves.

  • I'd just like to say that along with others, I believe that Father Bob is just a media tart. He let's Neil Mitchell use him to turn people against the Catholic Church, and he uses Neil Mitchell to further his own causes.

I am not a Catholic and my opinions are not biased. Merely my opinions. They both use each other. Too bad when it all blows up in their faces.

I don't always agree with Derryn, but nobody can deny that he is the one journalist on radio who puts his reputation and health on the line, every time he goes into bat to help so many people who have been treated harshly in their lives.

Melbourne would be a worse place if it wasn't for people like Derryn taking on the people who corrupt other peoples lives. Good on you Derryn.
