Gillard spooked by spectre of Rudd
An Age online headline today says it all: Stumbling Gillard spooked by spectre of Rudd.
And it is true. Like Banquo’s Ghost the Rudd questions hang heavily over the prime minister as she tries to get other people to concentrate on what she wants to talk about. When, at every press conference, there are the inevitable questions about the Ruddster. And the leaks from inside Labor that are damaging her.
And it’s getting worse. You’ve now got two former party leaders in the heasdlines while she is in the headlights.
Mark Latham going on television and saying that Rudd – the man Australia elected Prime Minister less than three years ago – is a coward. He pins the leaks on Rudd assays “ It’s the snake’s way. It’s unmanly and beneath an Aussie bloke to act this way’.
Latham says Rudd is acting on the bitter premise that 'if he can’t have it, no one else will'.
At her press conference in Perth today Gillard, obviously under pressure, stumbled and made errors. Said the election date was August 22 –not 21 – and called Rudd’s seat Griffiths instead of Griffith. Yesterday, as a caller pointed out on this program, she said Nauru when she meant East Timor.
The leaks and the back-biting and infighting in the Government ranks reminds me of a line Bob Hawke used effectively against the Liberals when they were brawling:
'If you can’t run your party… you can’t run your country'. Not surprising the bookies are shortening the odds of a Coalition victory.

Anne, you might feel very differently if you were a bullied schoolboy, who had to leave school in grade 7, because Labor repeatedly failed in its due of care. And worse still, an unrepresented schoolkid, who was repeatedly denied legal youth advocacy, who was repeatedly NOT heard on the Rights of the Child and the ICCPR in a human rights court of all places, and who had his courtroom audio tapes and transcripts repeatedly severely edited to deny him the evidence of the abuse and to pervert the course of justice. Even though our documented allegations are corroborated by two retired journalists, who witnessed the abuse and who have submitted sworn statutory declarations confirming our allegations and that our courtroom audio tapes and transcripts have been repeatedly severely edited, we have been denied an independent investigation. Because our local Labor MP, John Mickel, Speaker of Parliament has repeatedly denied us electoral representation and refuses to table our documented allegations in parliament, we have had to beg an Independent MP to assist us and sponsor an e-petition for an independent investigation into why the State Recording Bureau repeatedly allowed our courtroom audiotapes and transcripts to be severely edited http://bit.ly/aueuVm
Mr Mickel had me ejected from Parliament, when I went there as a last resort to address Parliament. The incident went unreported because Anna Bligh has banned TV news cameras from Parliament. A Courier Mail journalist interviewed me after my violent ejection but the whole matter was suppressed. For the past 10 weeks we have been protesting on this issue outside John Mickels office.
