Derryn Hinch has made it clear many times that he thinks Twitter is an absolute joke, a waste of time, etc.

We could write many more of his adjectives for Twitter if we were 'that kind' of website, but we're not.

But at least Hinch was professional enough to put his personal views aside to investigate what effect Twitter is having during the 2010 election campaign.

One of Hinch's quotes during the interview was worthy of hundreds of reTweets: 'You are what you Tweet'.

Listen to the discussion with Hinch and Dr Tim Butcher, Senior Lecturer from the School of Management at RMIT, which includes a friendly jibe at the end from 3AW's political reporter Latika Bourke - a prolific Tweeterer.

Julia Gillard all aTwitter

Julia Gillard's response sparked charity donation PM TWEET: There's been plenty of talk in cyberspace as to whether it's actually the Prime Minister herself Tweeting from the @JuliaGillard account, well, Ms Gillard has put an end to the debate.

  • John of Heathmont, totally agree with you, cannot see the point of twitter. It reminds me of chat for the illiterate & uninformed~!

  • Hinch will say anything to appeal to people locked in nursing home or stockpiling guns. He knows that's 3aw's main audience and he doesn't want to lose them. If his iphone rings in a public place he's embarrassed. :-p

  • I acknowledge that Twitter is generally just another outlet for the self-important who believe people are interested in tiny mundane details of their lives, its intersting to note that a few years ago during the Californian wildfires when many methods of communication were down, people were able to effectively broadcast where they were and if they were alright/what they had lost to their family and friends on Twitter. It may be boring as a campaign tool, but as an emergency broadcastign system for individuals it is very effective.
