Somchai Wongsawat Thailand's Prime Minister, Somchai Wongswat, has been banned from politics for five years and the country's main ruling party has been dissolved over a case of voting fraud.

Thailand's Constitutional Court made the decision public with a live TV broadcast in the South East Asian country, with the head of a nine-judge panel saying:

"As the court decided to dissolve the People Power Party (PPP), therefore the leader of the party and party executives must be banned from politics for five years. The court had no other option."

It is hoped the ruling will end the current sige which has shut Bangkok's two major airports, with thousands of western tourists and businesspeople still trying to make their way home amidst the chaos.
