What we're talking about

Where we at with the pink batt?

Pink batt scandal

With the Canberra press gallery on election alert we are  hearing much about the new prime minister clearing the decks, ticking the boxes, in readiness for a trip to the polling booth  next month.

Even though some of those cleared decks seem to have accumulated some new debris. On the mining tax deal which was trumpeted as a sensible, win-win, compromise the tax figures now seem decidedly suss.

Billions less than was at first reported. And I'll be talking to the Treasurer Wayne Swann about that later in the hour.

The East Timor boat people processing centre made headlines until  the East Timorese started saying they didn’t want it. And to complicate things further as I mentioned yesterday  Nauru has now said they might sing the UN refugees convention and consider re-opening the multi miliondollar centre there. The one the current government shut down.

And then there's the insulation scandal. The pink batt scandal. Nobody wants to talk about that. Where does the batt replacement campaign and the safety checks now stand.

In recent weeks there has been one development with a Queensland company charged over the death of 16 year old Reuben Barnes last year. The latest coming up next.

PLAYING NOW: Greg Hunt, Shadow Minister for Climate Action, Environment and Heritage speaks with Derryn Hinch.

Derryn Hinch: Profile

Derryn Hinch Derryn Hinch used to threaten that he would eventually write an autobiography and call it Famous People who have met me. He was joking. Eventually he did write a kind of personal biography about the private thoughts of a public person.
