Why are we paying this root rat?

Ron Tandberg colour cartoon: Hinch slams Tiger

PLAYING NOW: Hinch has say and you have yours.

HINCH: This is bloody madness. That root rat and serial adulterer Tiger Woods is coming to Melbourne and you, the taxpayer, are paying for it.

I don’t care if he comes. He’s more than welcome to come on down and defend his Australian Masters title in November.

But why should the taxpayer shell out a dollar towards his divorce settlement – let alone one and a half million dollars? It is a disgrace. An absolute disgrace.

And John Brumby as Premier and John Lenders as Treasurer and Major Events Minister Tim Holding cannot wash their hands of it. They cannot play ‘hands off’ and claim it is a Melbourne Major Events committee decision.

And I know they’ll bandy about that figure of $34 million it supposedly injects into the state economy.

It seems that just because Tiger Woods is a sporting hero (and that’s an abuse of the word) he can be excused for any sort of off-field behaviour.

Even the  Herald Sun which originally railled against the $3 million appearance fee, for which you apparently pay half, now runs a soppy editorial saying ‘he is now trying to put his life back together, and in doing so he deserves another chance’. Sure. Why should we pay for it?

I’m surprised they aren’t running a fund-raiser to help pay for his next sojourn in rehab to cure his ‘sex addiction’.

And to add to the insult the Government won’t even tell you exactly how much it cost you last year or will cost you this year. It’s confidential.

Let his sponsors pay. Or IMG - the sports promoters who will profit from it.

And how about Holding’s comments? I suspect his brain got left behind when he was lost in the mountains.

He says ‘Tiger’s personal matters are matters for him and his family’. No they are not. Hypocritical fraud made millions from projecting himself as the model husband and father. A role model for kids around the world.

And all the while he was screwing everything that moved – strippers, waitresses, hookers.

People like Brumby and Holding like to talk about footballers being role models and take the high moral ground when they get  involved in booze and drugs and sex off the field.

Not so, it seems, with a golfer.

What they are doing by throwing your money at Tiger Woods is virtually condoning his behaviour. Telling the world that we approve. That money comes before morality.

Think what better things you could do for the good of the people of Victoria with one and a half million dollars.  This is rewarding a sleazebag for his behaviour. It is a disgrace.

  • We pay far too much in taxes, that is why these politicians love to spend it,they have so much thet don't know what to do with it. The answer to this problem is don't give it to them in the first place, vote for the party that takes the least out of your pocket.

  • Can we all please go back to basics. the governments job is to ensure the state has the necessary infrastructure to enable its citizens to prosper economically and safely. It should not hand out OUR money to private interest so that they can prosper. If the Liberals support moving back to the original intent for a state government, they will have my vote. As for those who will Donkey vote this year: shame on you for not taking your obligation as a citizen seriously. They call it Donkey voting for a good reason by the way...

  • Instead of complaining about the measley $1.5M to Tiger Woods, which is worth every cent. We should really be looking at the $70 Million we flush down the toilet every year, on the Grand Prix.

  • A great benefit for Victoria...?
$1.5 million for Tiger to play 18 holes... at Crown Towers!
It's yet another disgrace Derryn and yet more wastage from our already penniless government.
Premier Brumby doesn't have a moral bone in his spineless soul. He doesn't care what it costs because he gets a first class ticket to the event.
'Spin Doctor John's' happy to part with $1.5 million of your and my hard-earned in a feeble attempt to try and fill the financial black hole his government has created for us.
They must think if anyone can fill a black hole, Tiger can?
This government and its crooked dealings more resemble a deck of cards. Where Tiger's the 'Ace of Spades', Brumby's 'The Joker'...!!!
