Archbishop Hart snubs politicians
Supporters of Father Bob Maguire are still baffled as to why he is being forced out of the Parish.
Archbishop Denis Hart delivered the news to Fr. Maguire, saying the 77-year-old was getting too old to be a parish priest.
Labor member for Albert Park, Martin Foley, says the decision to remove him will be detrimental for the community.
Mr Foley is one of seven state politicians - from all sides of politics - who have requested a meeting with Archbishop Hart.
The Archbishop has snubbed the politicians, and did not even personally respond to the request to the seven, cross-party members of parliament.
PLAY: Neil Mitchell reveals details of the meeting request
Why Father Bob's work is so important
MUST LISTEN: Neil Mitchell chased up a difficult story after a man, known as 'Luke 827', passed away following a long battle with mental health and drugs. Father Bob Maguire had been helping the troubled man for around 30 years.

Neil Church and state thank God came to an end in the 60's when we the community no longer listened to whom the priests said we should vote for. We grew up and were able to make our own decissions on who to vote for. Archbishop Hart does not answer to the polies so good for him he has not had a meeting with them. No one is stopping Father Bob from doing his good works however with his carrying on I have to ask the question he needs to be the centre of attention I am beginning to believe that is just it. I think he is a self induldent priest who needs to be the centre of attention who has hood winked all the high profile peopel to do his biding. Father Bob go gracfully and graciously and do your good works 24/7 without the responsibility of a parish there is still plenty of work to do ask your fellow retired priest there is plenty to do if you want.

No blog for today's Thursday Dec 1 contact between Neil and the Archbishop. Wonder why.
Anyway, I listened and gleefully punched the air when the Archbishop put Neil in his place when Neil asked "why the Archbishop ignored the Parliamentarians" and the reply came back because CHURCH AND STATE ARE SEPARATE!!! Neil expects the Church to bow down to his and Caesar's bidding but God forbid Right to life raise their heads because Neil will raise his mighty voice and tells them keep to themselves. The hypocrisy is astonishing.mary Thursday 1 December, 2011 - 2:03 PM -
Father Bob Maguire should be allowed to stay in his position past the age of 76.
Look at our Pope's for example...the current Pope Benedict XVI was 78 when elected.....many Pope's reined well into their late 80's.
I am sure the Pope's responsibilities are much more than that of Father Bob's. Let this lovely man stay where he belongs...
he is an icon,,and should be allowed to continue his marvelous work until HE wants to stop.
There is a shortage of priests, so why on earth retire someone who is doing a fabulous job and happy in doing it.
