Police have been involved in a shooting

A four-year old boy has been killed in a tragic farming accident in Victoria's north.

The accident happened on Friday morning in Wandella, near Kerang in Victoria.

Police say the boy was killed by a front-end loader.

WorkSafe and police are investigating.

Meanwhile, a man in his 40s is fighting for his life in hospital after coming into contact with powerlines.

The man was putting up speakers and other equipment for next week's Cycling Championships, just outside of Ballarat, when he touched the powerlines.

The man went into cardiac arrest and his work colleagues performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

He's been taken to the Ballarat Base Hospital in a critical condition.

The accident happened just before midday on Mount Buninyong Road.
