A Victorian cancer patient is auctioning his entire Slim Dusty collection in order to raise money for the hospital that has been treating him.

Billy Malady, a Slim Dusty devotee, has been receiving treatment from Ballarat Base Hospital for 105 weeks and running, and wants to show the hospital his gratitude by donating all proceeds made from the sale of his collection to them.

Billy was intending to sell the collection of eBay at a reserve price of $5,000, but that figure was blown out of the water by a generous listener who offered $25,000.

Billy told Neil Mitchell that he would withdraw the collection from online auction if the $25,000 offer went through.

His Silm Dusty collection comprises of 113 albums, 15 DVDs and three books.

Billy has beaten bowel cancer and is currently on a drug trial to battle liver cancer.

“(I’m) on top of it,” Billy Malady told Neil Mitchell this morning. “Everything is looking good.”

The Ballarat Regional Integrated Cancer Centre has received $55 million in funding from the federal and Victorian governments combined, but has a still has a fundraising target of $1.5 million which the proceeds from the sale of Billy's Slim Dusty collection will go towards.
