Commissioner is 'window-dressing'

The Hume Freeway speed camera crisis widens YOUR SAY: The Opposition has accused the Baillieu government of hypocrisy over speed cameras. In an Australian first, Victoria's new speed camera Commissioner, former Country Court judge Gordon Lewis, started work on Monday.

  • What concerns me with this "error" is that it took uncle Ken to get it sorted out. If it had been a car or a motorcycle in the picture with no other traffic, they would stick to their hard line and say that the cameras are never wrong. So the picture was obviously not matched up to the correct data from the camera. How many times has this happed I wonder? The camera operator should be sacked for this mistake. Errors like this can cost people their livelihoods.

  • The speed camera system certainly is a con.
    A complete and utter 'SHAM'!
    Con was conned - along with everybody else!
    Speed cameras never have complied with legal requirements. Never complied with the National Measurement Act - Act that binds the Crown!
    Never complied with the National Measurement Regulations.
    Never complied with Section 43 of Victoria's Supreme Court Act 1986 - therefore speed camera photographs have 'no effect in law' as they do not / cannot maintain precisely 36,000 seconds ahead of Co-ordinated Universal Time (UTC) as determined by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures - 10 hours (36,000 seconds precisely) or 11 hours (39,600 seconds precisely) re Section 3 of the Summer Time Act 1972 which allows the advancement of one hour for daylight savings.
    NEVER HAVE and NEVER WILL maintain legal time!
    Con was not at that place, at that time.
    Merely like the rest of you - Con was simply 'CONNED'!!!

  • You people asking for more cameras have no idea.

  • When will people realise that the very rapid measurement of speed is inherently flawed. The system relies on the speed measuring equipment being absolutely fixed and the target vehicle moving on a perfectly flat road with no wind. If the target vehicle is bounced by an inperfection in the road, the body moves in addition to it's forward motion and this will cause an error. You park your car on the side of the road and a vehicle goes past past and buffets your vehicle. If this happens to the camera car at the moment its takes the speed reading and error occurs. A side wind which buffets both the target and camera vehicle at the crucial moment will also lead to errors. These are some of the problems with rapid speed measurement systems that really cannot be overcome in the dynamics of real world motoring. The photo of the van indicates that the camera vehicle was on the other side of the road at a significant angle to the oncoming traffic, This can lead to triangulation errors.

  • "she still has a valid point that there are a lot of leadfoots out there and I agree that there should be more cameras."

    ======

    Even if they are faulty?
    I bet you wouldn't be saying it if it was you who got caught and the camera was faulty.
