Crowded airport dash proves costly
Traffic police have slammed the behaviour of a driver caught speeding in an overcrowded car, with an unrestrained toddler.
The 46-year-old man was stopped on the Monash Freeway at Glen Iris last night after being clocked at 109km/h in an 80km/h zone.
Officers discovered five adults sitting in the Holden Commodore who were trying to hide the two-year-old child under luggage.
They were on their way to the airport and claim they couldn't find a babysitter.
Sergeant Mick Free says the car has been impounded for 30 days.

Teens arrested for rock-throwing
A paramedic who had a rock thrown at his ambulance last night says it's lucky no one was injured. A 16-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with reckless conduct endangering life, discharging a missile, unlawful assault and criminal damage.

@Mylene,your supposed to watch for the signs and drive accordingly,I would not want to be around you on the roads, with your attitude>!

When you're coming home from the airport no one knows when the speed limit changes from 80 to 100 kph. THe signs change on an hourly basis. Two weeks ago it went right back to the DLO store.

@ DavidR, how hot is it in Moe today?
Steve Tuesday 7 February, 2012 - 7:34 AM -
DavidR is right. The speed limit changes from 100 to 80 around that part of the freeway and could easily be missed. "Doing 109 in and 80 zone" sounds much worse that it is for that part of the road. It probably only changes for traffic control as it always used to be 100. Sure, the kid should have had a seat belt on, but I hardly think it warrants impounding the car, let alone pitch forks and lanterns. We are becoming less tolerant and nastier by the day.

Oh what a perfect world we live in , no-one does anything wrong and everyone is so content. Just because the car is full does not make it inherently unsafe.
Manditory Jail,DHS !!! just listen to yourselves.
Of course the parents put themselves before their child, or should one bow down to a child! Ah The Child King!!
The only thing they did wrong was break the speed limit.DavidR Monday 6 February, 2012 - 3:49 PM
