Derryn Hinch free from detention
Derryn Hinch has welcomed freedom after five months of home detention with a tweet and a glass of non-alcoholic wine.
The 3AW Drive presenter was ordered to serve the sentence for publicly naming two convicted sex offenders - whose names were suppressed - at a public rally in 2008. The 'Human Headline' was also restricted from tweeting, emailing, posting on Facebook or talking publicly.
But as the clock struck midnight and December 21 began, Hinch was behind the computer in the home he called prison and posting his first message to the public since he was sentenced.
"Heee's back! New liver. New life. Same old #Hinch. Fresh attack on bad law. And the magistrate was wrong. Life in this old bastard yet," said Hinch in his tweet.
Hinch had only just had a successful liver transplant days before his detention began but he looked fit, healthy and strong at the start of an abnormal working day.
He was even forced to complete some handyman work before he could leave his apartment in South Yarra after his producer, Shannon Reid, accidentally broke the hinge off his door while opening it for him.
Hinch has said he will not speak to the media until his 4pm program on 3AW Radio has gone to air on Wednesday, but he has posted several tweets early in the morning to his nearly 20,000 followers.
"I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet, a pawn and a king. I've been up and down and over and out. Well, never a puppet," he said, in one of the Twitter posts.
After Hinch's first broadcast on Wednesday he will be guest of honour at his own 'Coming Out' party at the Riva bar in St Kilda.

COMPETITION STILL OPEN: After serving five months in home detention, Derryn Hinch is primed to return to 3AW Drive this Wednesday, December 21st. 3AW is running a little competition beforehand. Click the image on the right to find out more.

Hinch detained and banned
UPDATE: Derryn Hinch has received five months home detention and has been banned from broadcasting or publishing during that time for naming sex offenders whose names were suppressed.
Derryn Hinch sentencing
DERRYN HINCH: "I am under no illusions. If it hadn't been for my serious medical condition I would be in jail right now instead of writing this." Read the report Hinch wrote after his dramatic day in court on Tuesday.
'I'm not scared to go to jail'
UPDATE: Derryn Hinch has been found guilty of four charges of breaching a suppression order. One of the five charges he faced was dismissed. Read and listen to Hinch's say here by clicking the image on the right.
This is why Hinch keeps fighting
HINCH BLOG: "Now, these men, whom I have named, are evil men. Cunning, plotting rapists and pedophiles. One of them even plotted with the notorious Mr Baldy in prison about how they would run a farm with young boys as sex slaves when they got out."
Hinch 'didn't identify' pedophiles
LATEST: "On the other side the SC argued that merely naming them was enough because of the plethora of other material out there in the public domain – especially on Google – for somebody to put it all together and identify the person involved."

Welcome back, Derryn, so glad to hear you are well happy and haven't lost your roar ... as a mother of young children I support you 100% in your fight against this unjust law and also glad to hear of your mission to get the donor rates soaring up. Just make sure you always remember to look after yourself :)
