Detectives are investigating whether a serial sex pest targeting women in Melbourne's eastern suburbs has struck a ninth time.

A 27-year-old woman has contacted police claiming she was indecently assaulted by a man in Camberwell at around 10:30pm in the evening on Thursday last week.

The victim had got off a train at Camberwell Station and was walking home along Burke Road when she was attacked from behind.

A man described as Asian and aged in his 20s has been targeting women who have caught public transport and are walking in residential streets, between the hours of 6:30pm and 11:40pm.
