Four-legged chicken 'walks well'
Neil Mitchell spoke to the man who sent us an image of this 'pretty uncoordinated' four-legged chicken.
Here is the email the man, Tyson, sent us: "Hi Mr Mitchell, I took this photo yesterday at a broiler farm of a 4-legged chicken the grower told me the bird walked on all 4 legs and was very healthy, plently of drumsticks, regards Tyson."

Jenny, the chicken spends a considerable about of it's very short life sitting on the ground in the sheds. The floors are often damp, mushy and smell caused by faeces and urine. In addition to this, the overhead foggers can also add to the problem. Ideally the growers should change the kitty litter and saw dust covered floors over on a regular basis to reduce prevent the bird from getting wet and burnt from the amonia build up. Often this is not done properly due to the quick turn around times required for the next batch of chicks to be placed in the shed. Hope this info has helped.

4 legged chickens are the tip of the ice berg in the poultry industry. I have worked in the industry for many years and have seen bow legged chickens, 4 winged chicken, 2 tailed chickens, a 3rd leg that just drags around as the chicken walks, 3 winged chickens, deformed curled up beaks, one eyed chickens and the list goes on and on.

This bird should have been put down rather than put on display. This is shameful, and for 3AW to use this chicken as a promotion of their show, just highlights how out of touch you people really are with the expectations of society.
