Gay marriage debate at fever pitch
Federal MPs will report community views on gay marriage to parliament on Wednesday.
Up to 20 MPs are expected to tell parliament what their communities think on the issue.
As MPs make their report, two senators from opposite sides of politics will table a petition against same-sex marriage.
The reporting comes as the brother of independent MP Bob Katter, Carl, has come out about his homosexuality after he was distressed about his brother's views against gay marriage.
Carl Katter supports gay marriage.

The problem here is to accept what is different is harder to grasp what has already been imposed and accepted socially. Clearly sexuality is present in nature in different ways and only differentiates us from other species is that there are certain impediments ents or rules that affect our living together for better or for worse and many of these religious conditions.

Darrell, wrong again. Re-read my post. Homosexual men and women have been living "straight" lives and reproducing (yes, having heterosexual sex) since forever. Homosexuality, unlike IVF, is not new! I also said that biological (yes, natural) reproduction is seperate to sexuality. It is perfectly possible to have sex to reproduce, irrespective of your sexuality, but I understand if that is too difficult a concept to grasp. I would NEVER kick a dog that was not threatening a life, how presumptuous of you to suggest otherwise. You bring up a good point though - animals of the same sex CAN be observed mounting each other in normal, natural environments! I find it extremely disturbing that you condemn homosexual love, whilst condoning violence and cruelty to animals. This is truly disgraceful. Do you also condone or partake in violence against homosexuals? Darrell, ignorance and stupidity are one thing, inciting violence puts you in a whole other category.

My daughter and I were listening on the day this debate aired. She asked me what was wrong with GAY MARRAIGE? I asked her what she thought marraige was her words are very pround for an 11 YEAR OLD she said "Its when two people who love each other get married and live together." she thought for a moment and then said "usally a man and a woman, why cant gay people get married too?"
when I told her that its was against the LAW she said "well thats just stupid. if people love each other they should get married"
Iam so proud that I have taught my children to be opened minded and not to judge other.Proud Mum Wednesday 31 August, 2011 - 5:11 PM -
Justine, Thanks for Birds and the Bees lesson but i am still confused. If in fact sexuality in biological terms is irrelevent as you say where have these children that gay people have mysteriously appear from, the lab maybe? Donations from others probably but on the other hand isnt that still the Natural way of reproduction? So how ever you try sugarcoat it to support your opinion, nature designed reproduction via male & female species thats natural!Thats how we all evolved(That could open a can of worms with some)Besides if you saw your dog doing it with another male dog you would kick it in the NUTS!

Perhaps MATT (proudly Un Australian) could also explain why so many Muslim children are being smuggled out of Australia to fulfill arranged marriages overseas, particularly the Middle East?

Lenny, (Tues 30 Aug 8:53AM) well said. Darrell, procreation requires a)a fertile woman and b)a fertile man. In biological terms, sexuality is irrelevant. In fact, homosexual men and women have been marrying and having children right throughout history. In any case, the human race is not facing extinction, leaving people free to procreate (or not) regardless of their biological function. Those throwing about words like "normal", "(un)natural" and (un)acceptable" don't seem to understand the terms themselves, nor do they understand that they are not interchangeable and not absolute.
