G'Day USA 2012
Guy Pearce finds awards ceremonies excruciating, difficult and embarassing but the accolades keep coming for the talented and respected actor. He's accepted an honour at the G'day USA gala where huge names in the film and entertainment industry gathered at the Hollywood and Highland grand ballroom in Los Angeles.
Those helping Pearce celebrate included Paul Hogan, Miranda Kerr, Simon Baker, Tim Allen, Iva Davies, Delta Goodrem, Jacki Weaver, Jamie Durie and Jon Voight.
Kate Winslet handed Pearce his award, revealing that as a teenager she would skip school to watch Pearce playing Mike from Neighbours, never thinking she would one day meet and work with him.
Basketball legend Luc Longley was also honoured. His former Chicago Bulls coach Phil Jackson informing the one thousand guests that when the "man with the warmest and biggest heart' arrived, he forced the team to watch Priscilla Queen of the Desert and endure AFL highlights.
A highlight of the evening was a four song set from the third honorees, Air Supply. The band received two standing ovations as they played their hits, including All out of Love.
After a delicious and inspired Guy Grossi meal of lemon infused Toothfish and Braised Angus Pure Australian Beef Guancia with a side of coleslaw, the celebrities, starlets, business leaders and tourism representatives danced into the early hours to a stream of Aussie hits including INXS, Men at Work and AC/DC.
Organisers are hoping that for next year's gala, past honourees such as Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett will re-unite to mark the ten year anniversary of the event.
