Google has released a new Maps app for Apple iOS, allaying the concerns of many irritated and lost users of Apple's own mapping application.

"People around the world have been asking for Google Maps on iPhone," director of Google Maps for mobile, Daniel Graf, said in a statement. "Starting today, we're pleased to announce that Google Maps is here."

In September, the previously pre-installed Google Maps app was removed from iOS with the launch of Apple Maps in iOS 6. Since then, there have been numerous complaints from users about locations labelled incorrectly and giving incorrect directions.

On Monday Police contacted Apple over concerns the app has misplaced Mildura and was leaving users standard.

  • This version is obviously superior to the old Google Maps on iOS and Apple's Maps. I guess this is really a smart move from Apple to integrate Google maps into iOS. This helps to increase sales of iPhone as we are seeing many reports show iPhone 5 in demand into this winter year. So this is really a great time to be happy for Apple.

  • It only took being thrown out of iOS, for Google to do the right thing, and provide Apple users with a Map app that is as good as the Android version.
