Hayley let down by system

Hayley's case has upset many people

The childcare worker who was with the two-year-old girl Hayley when she died after allegedly being bashed by her father says more could have been done for her.

Coroner John Olle has ruled the girl was let down by the authorities and her life may have been saved if the system had been designed to prevent abuse before it occurred.

The father of the girl was charged with intentionally causing serious injury to his daughter and committed suicide a few days later.

Childcare worker Louise was in the Coroners Court yesterday with the family and says the protocols were followed but it still wasn't enough.

  • Children are being abuse because of the soft laws ,how many children are given back to there abuser time after time, these judges do not have a clue on how to protect these children,DHS,police can only do so much and then its up to the judges, and then these children go home and there no money from the goverment to employ workers to do follow ups at home for a long period of time, our laws and goverment have a lot to answer too.

  • Time to end the so called baby bonus with a view to removing the incentives for the low lifes, ferals and grunges from breeding. I rest my case!

  • I remember when the single mothers pension was introduced. My first thought was "oh no, lots of girls will be having babies for the pension". Of course this happened and now the baby bonus just makes it more attractive to the immature girls who can't see past the dollars. I am afraid incidents like this will become more common in the years to come. Being a grandmother my heart aches everytime one of these babies die at the hands of the people who are supposed to love and care for them.
I am also concerned about the prospect of hundreds of little ones being abused everyday or not receiving the loving care they deserve.

  • It makes me sick to my stomach to think of what that poor little baby went through in her short life. Her story haunts my nights as did Daniel Valerio"s.While i certainly agree with the other comments, too many young precious lives are lost at the hands of those who were supposed to protect and love them. The DHS can only do so much, their hands are often tied by our archaic legal system and when they finally do intervene, its far too late. There are too many incentives for young, uneducated adults from lower socio economic backgrounds to simply breed.Why?- One for the family and one for the country? How can a 16 or 17 year old who hasnt even evolved yet have a baby? Thats right the Government incentives. While the saying "it takes a village to raise a child" is true, more often than not, family members of an abused child are in denial and simply do nothing. Some people shouldn't be allowed to have children after this form of evil.Yes I am judging. In 10-15 years we will see the ramifications of babies and toddlers who are being abused right now (who survived) become young adults full of hatred and suffer some form of mental illness simply perpetuate the cycle as Darrell said.i really fear for our society...RIP sweet little Hayley

  • Linda you dont have to be a rocket scientist or even a chidcare worker to work that out!As i said before the baby bonus is the biggest problem.Ferals and single girls eager to make a quick 4 or 5 thousand dollars, where does the money go? not the poor bloody kid it goes thru the pokies,in their arms, up against the wall and those kids that dont end up dead start the whole cycle again when old enough. We had kids because we WANTED them not just to grab some easy cash money!
