Amazing, and disturbing, tales emerging from Italy

The Costa Cordobia disaster in Italy is making headlines around the world, and on Monday Neil Mitchell spoke with a survivor from the tragedy.

Rob Elcombe, who was on board the ship with his wife, paints a disturbing picture of how chaotic the evacuation was.

"I am pretty disgusted by the human race," Mr Elcombe said, in describing how women and children were knocked over by men trying to save themselves.

  • @ Steve. If you google you'll find a whole list of men who dressed as women to get on the lifeboats of the Titanic. Some were so shamed that they were forced to live the rest of their lives as women for fear of the truth coming out. Also see the Night Gallery episode 'The Lone Survivor' and William S Burroughs references it in 'New Standard By Which To Measure Infamy' on his Dead City Radio CD.

  • It's equal rights, isn't it? Ever since women have insisted on equal rights, you can expect more of this behavior. It's woman's fault.

  • May have been an exaggeration of what he saw cant say for sure. However the idea a women should be in a lifeboat B4 a man is an obsolete feminist idea. Generally, evacuation should be done by age (younger first) with a consideration of keeping families together.
Women are human beings not gods.

  • Women are considered equal to men fighting in war zones doing the same jobs but when it comes to dying throw a man in 1st because women suddenly become the weaker sex. Equal rights and antidiscrimination laws are only used when it suits women. Well you can't discriminate against men either ladies. We are not living in the 1800's anymore.
