James Packer defends his business
The billionaire boss of Crown casino says federal government moves to curb problem gambling have the potential to hit jobs and tourism.
Crown Chairman James Packer there's no evidence that a mandatory pre-commitment scheme or a one-dollar maximum bet would reduce problem gambling.
But he's told Neil Mitchell the moves could come at a great cost.
Mr Packer says he supports moves to do more about problem gambling but believes the new initiatives are more about politics.

Aren't we all ignoring the elephant in the room? What the gambling industry is saying in this debate is that they rely on problem gambling to make massive profits. Why else would they be so opposed to a measure to reign in the problem gamblers? If your industry makes a large part of its profits from peoples addictive behaviour, then surely this is not good for society. It is no accident that a huge majority of these gambling barns are set up in lower socio-economic neighbourhoods where people can least afford to lose the money and where the addictive behaviours are more likely to be found.

Bad luck if people lose their jobs the government is 100% right in introducing a $1.00 pokie limit. Too many people are losing thousands of dollars on pokie machines.

In the end, James Packer will win and then kick arse! I say good on him. We need people with balls to tell this rotten damned minority marxist government of Brown/Gillard/turncoats to get stuffed. Because as soon as the electorates get hold of these no hopers they shall be done like a fkn dinner.
