Man dies after Hoddle Street crash
A man has died in hospital after crashing into a pole at Abbotsford on Thursday while he was trying to evade a breath test.
Early on Thursday morning, a 26-year-old St Kilda man did a u-turn in front of random breath-testing site on High Street, Westgarth, and sped off.
He was followed by police but the driver was almost half a kilometre ahead when he crashed into a pylon on Hoddle Street.
The man suffered serious lower body injuries and died in hospital at around 1am Friday.
Meantime, a woman has died after she crashed into a tree on South Road in East Brighton at 11am on Thursday night.
The woman was a passenger in the back seat and died at the scene.
The driver and another passenger suffered minor injuries.

To Qkcarol & Glenn, let's hope you never have to suffer the loss of a family member or friend in tragic circumstances such as this. Whilst the young man who has died may have made a bad choice count yourselves lucky that your moments of bad decisions have not cost you yours or others lives. We all make mistakes, especially when we are young. Try to have some empathy & compassion for those mourning the loss. You might find it a humbling experience!
Condolensces to the family and friends of this young man.David Friday 27 January, 2012 - 1:26 PM -
The devil's taking them away one by one. We are being blessed these days.

Just waiting for the inevitable ill-informed comments about police pursuits. When are the media going to report on sentences handed out for drivers involved in pursuits? That will paint the picture.

One less moron to worry about.
Chase until they crash has to be the best policy, none of these tools can actually drive that well so should not be too much trouble to tip them over.Glenn Friday 27 January, 2012 - 7:45 AM
