Man reunited with teenage hero
This morning Neil Mitchell reunited Nino Deliso, a near-drowning victim with the thirteen-year-old schoolgirl who saved his life.
Therese Hughes-Menzies, now fourteen years old, was presented with an Ambulance Victoria Community Hero award after she dived into rough waters off Frankston pier to save Nino.
Nino had been out for a swim when things took a turn for the worse and he had blacked out.
"By the time I'd realised and woken up I was in hospital, and I was told that (Therese) had helped me and saved my life," Nino told Neil Mitchell.
Therese came to Nino's rescue when she spotted him unconscious and floating in the water.
"I'm proud of myself because I never thought I would have it within me to save someone's life," Therese said.
"I was just walking down the pier and I saw someone floating in the water so I just jumped in and helped him (to) see if he was alright."
"I just put him on his back and swam over to the ladder, and a couple of helped me pull him out of the water.
Attending paramedic, Tara Glenn, said Therese was responsible for saving Nino's life.
"There was no doubt that if Therese hadn't pulled Nino out of the water when she had that Nino wouldn't be here today," Tara said.
"It's amazing to see Nino here, because we really didn't think he would've made it through."
Nino was incredibly grateful to teenager for saving his life.
"If it wasn't for the young lady taking me out of the water, I wouldn't be here today to talk to everybody," Nino said.
"She'll always be in my heart."
