Nurses considering mass resignations over their pay dispute are being warned the government is taking the threat seriously and has a contingency plan in place.

  • I have been following the Nurses Industrial dispute very closely since it first began in November. I am not a nurse, but a year 12 student, who needed to take up an issue to write a speech. I'm not sure why I chose this topic, it's not like my aspirations is to become a nurse. However by following this topic I wouldn't think that the state government would disrespect a profession so much, and I must say I am appalled about how the state government is treating nurses. Especially since the nurses have contributed so much to the health and welfare of the general public. Some people may find some of their actions controversial, or even may disagree with it, e.g. the mass resignation. However if the nurses feel that their only option was to result in a drastic plan(which would affect their lives immensely), than there is obviously something very wrong with this state. As I know that nurses would actually try everything in their power not to jeopardise the health of the public. I just hope that in my chosen field in the future, that I do not have to succumb to such a drastic plan, just for my message to be heard. The nurses are proposing to participate in the mass resignation because they are dissatisfied with the state government, since their main purpose is to maintain and improve nurse-to-patient ratios, which the state government wants to abolish. At the end of the day the general public would be the ones most affected by abolishing nurse-to-patient ratios, as it is their health that would be at risk. To be able to continually and passionately continue with this dispute, takes a whole lot of courage and determination.

  • Resign then as you're beginning to whinge more than farmers. Of course it's all about patient ratios and not money.
If our taxpayer cash wasn't wasted by the previous govt on every project possible, you'd have more than enough money. Blame them.

  • Can someone please tell Neil Mitchell that if he is to ask his guests a question, NOT to interrupt the answer as was the case this morning with Jeff Kennett, it is infuriating, there are some of us out there who like to listen to the answer, funny about that!!!!!
