'Officer should be thanked over Tyler'
Neil Mitchell has now read the entire 130-page coroner's report into the death of 15-year-old Tyler Cassidy, shot by police facing a 'perilous' risk from the knife-wielding boy.
The 3AW host says Leading Senior Constable Colin Dods, the 'man in the thick of this', deserves some kind of recognition.
Mitchell says the police officer broke his own training and risked his own life to try to influence the result so that Cassidy survive the incident which ultimately cost him his life.
"The police do not deserve to be vilified," says Mitchell, adding Leading Senior Constable Colin Dods should receive thanks from the community he serves.
Listen to Neil Mitchell's editorial on this difficult subject below.

Less Tylers around safer we are.
Conversely less quick Police action the more at risk we are.
Good job by the Police.
Lets hope they are as quick and determined in every circumstances of this kind.
They should not worry the majority of us the victims of crime are with them even though we don't go around as lunatic demonstrators against everything.Linette Friday 25 November, 2011 - 12:43 PM -
Its time our laws came down harder on kids and drugs, that kid was off his face and running in a gang. We need tougher laws and jails.

I feel sorry for the Boys's Mum it must be such a heart break for her to loose her son. The Policeman has to live with his role for rest of his life - There are no winners here it is awful for everyone

Well put Rob ,I agree entireley. Most police get paid around 50-60k PA.
Thats not much more than most people on this site I dare suggest. They are risking their lives and putting up with the worst people and situations in our society.
Give them a medal not scorn.adam Thursday 24 November, 2011 - 4:54 PM -
What if the police did not get to him before he used the knives on innocent passers by and children and the like?
The bleeding hearts would may be then ready to blame passers by for being about close to a mad 15 years old boy.
But what if he was on a partying premises with a huge bunch of other youngsters. he would have got dozens of them as well.
Which ever way he was in the wrong place with the wrong intent NOT THE POLICE.Karl Thursday 24 November, 2011 - 3:26 PM -
The police, should be commended on the way they handled this situation, if they don't protect us who will??
