The State Government won't say how much it has cost taxpayer to fund former ministerial adviser Tristan Weston's legal bills.

Mr Weston, who resigned on Thursday following a damning Office of Police Integrity report into his conduct had been on paid leave for four months as the watchdog investigated his behind the scenes campaign against then police commissioner Simon Overland.

He only worked for the Police Minister Peter Ryan for 90 days.

When questioned, Mr Ryan wouldn't say how much legal advice to Mr Weston has cost taxpayers.

Premier Ted Baillieu says he as full confidence in Peter Ryan despite the Police Minister's admission he had "absolutely no idea" about the actions of one of his staffers.
