Police have issued a public appeal for information after a 16-year-old girl was attacked in Gardenvale last week.

The teenage girl has told police she was assaulted as she walked across a footbridge over Nepean Highway from St James Parade at around 3:30pm Monday last week.

A man approached her from behind and grabbed her by the waist before trying to drag her into nearby bushes.

The victim managed to break free, but the attacker grabbed her shoulder prompting her to punch the man in the face and flee.

Police have today released an image of the man, who is described as being of Mediterranean appearance, aged between 30 and 35, 183cm tall with olive skin. He was wearing a dark blue hooded jumper with a zipper and dark coloured pants.
