LATEST: A teacher at a Geelong school accused of appearing in an online sex video with a former student is on a leave of absence pending an investigation.

Graphic vision, showing the teacher naked and the woman blindfolded, has gone viral around the school community at Oberon High School, in suburban Belmont.

Education Union president Mary Bluett says teachers are guided by a code of conduct.

The Education Department says it will take appropriate action when all the details are known.

3AW's Derryn Hinch says regardless of the fact no laws appear to have been broken by either the man or the woman in the video, the teacher should be sacked.

UPDATE: Investigations are underway into a teacher at a Geelong school who appears in an online sex video with a former pupil.

Students uncovered the video this week and sent the link around the school community.

Concerned parents have contacted the Geelong school and the teacher reportedly has taken a leave of absence.

A spokeswoman for the Education Department says it's aware of the matter and looking into it.

Neil Mitchell reported shortly after 11am the school the teacher is employed by is Oberon High School.

A Department of Education spokeswoman told us:

- The Department is investigating this matter and will be taking the appropriate action when all the details are known.

- This is a timely reminder of the dangers of cyberspace.

- Yesterday the State Government released a new guide for teachers about appropriate and responsible online behaviour.

- The teacher is not at school today.

EARLIER: The Education Department has confirmed it's been made aware of reports that a male teacher at a school has been spotted in an online adult movie with a former pupil.

3AW's Rumour File has been informed by a number of parents who have reported the existence of the video after becoming aware of the video after the video link went viral.

It's understood some of the students at the school have sent on the video link.

Some parents say they have seen the video and confirmed the identity of the teacher and the former pupil.

A spokeswoman for the Education Department says they are aware of the matter and looking into it.

3AW has chosen not to name the school at this stage but return here for updates on the story.

  • He needs to go. Students need to look up to their teachers for guidance, not be corrupted by an act of pure stupidity such as this, what was he trying to prove? Minerva, this is no mistake, he doesnt deserve a 2nd chance, he knew what he was doing, he should know better than to form a relationshiop with a student, and needs to accept the consequences.

  • Minerva, unfortunately it was bound to get publicity, the individual took part in a commercial venture which was bound to be seen by some-one connected with his work environment sooner or later, it is naive to think that no-one connected with his workplace e.g.: other teachers, parents, students would not sooner or later view his performance & recognise him, and human nature being what it is ergo: the publicity

  • I'm disgusted that this was even brought to the attention of the media.. The abslute humiliation this poor man and his consenting partner must be feeling is by far enough. Sure he made a mistake, people make mistakes, how was he to anticipate how rapidly and consequentially this would spread. No one has a right to question his character or ability as a teacher and can those who have say they've never watched or participated in porn? its sex. get over it. we all do it.
