Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police, Shane Patton, has criticised youths who have been involved with crime with knives.

His comments come after an incident at a Melton shopping centre earlier this week.

“That was horrendous for anyone who had to see it,” he told Tom Elliott.

He says the two offenders involved in the incident have been arrested and charged with various offences.

He also says despite several high profile crimes involving knives, knife crime is on the decrease.

“I think it’s important to note, we’ve seen the use … has been declining,” he said.

He also weighed in on the recent incidents in New South Wales, calling them a tragedy.
