Protesters removed by police
UPDATE: About 30 Occupy Melbourne protesters have marched on the Town Hall demanding to see Lord Mayor Robert Doyle.
They're upset at the treatment they say they received when police and Melbourne City Council workers moved into the Treasury Gardens this morning and tore down their campsite.
The protesters remain in the gardens and plan to meet this evening in the City Square to decide their next move.
Spokesman David Chofel says what happened this morning was a disgrace.
EARLIER: Three Occupy Melbourne protesters have been arrested after defying an order to remove their tents and belongings from Treasury Gardens.
The Melbourne City Council issued notices to the protesters on Wednesday morning and when they failed to comply within the one-hour deadline, police were called in.
Police surrounded the protester's 'First Nation Embassy tent' and removed half a dozen protestors to allow council staff to dismantle the tent.
Inspector Bernie Jackson says he deployed 100 police to Treasury Gardens.

Having seen the amount of police officers and vehicles at this site for the last 3 days I'm led to believe Melbourne is vitually crime free. Ha, what a waste of police resources! Shouldn't the police be catching the hoons, thieves and thugs that plauge the streets rather than a few university kids trampling the lawn.

I'm with the sprinkler guy, give them a wash before the coppers have to touch them. Great to see our coppers being allowded to be real coppers for a change. Hope this continues.

Haha a movement so pathetic they're used as training exercises for our rookie police officers to develop crowd control skills. Pathetic people.
