'Teen' dies after being hit by train
LATEST: A teenage girl, killed after being hit by a train in Melbourne's north-west, may have been wearing headphones, oblivious to people warning her not to cross the tracks.
Paramedics were called to Ginifer Railway Station at St. Albans just before eight this morning.
The 15-year-old girl tried to cross the tracks while the pedestrian boom gates were down and was struck by an approaching train.
Sergeant Rob Atkinson says a number of people tried to get her attention to warn her but the girl was wearing earphones and kept on crossing.
UPDATE: A female, believed to be in her teens, hit by a train at Ginifer Train Station on Monday morning has passed away.
Neil Mitchell says Ambulance Victoria confirmed the news around 8:45am.
EARLIER: Paramedics are working to save a woman hit by a train at St Albans.
An ambulance spokesman says the woman was struck at the Ginifer Railway station and has critical injuries.
The fire brigade is also at the scene.
Metro Trains says there are disruptions to the Sydenham line with buses running between St Albans and Watergardens.

All this writing is for nothing as you guys are commenting on misleading article. This young girl Sheniz Erkan 14 years old actually took her young life due to bullying at school and on the net. She knew what she was doing. I wish some one could put a stop to bullying and protection around train tracks. RIP Sheniz

Pedestrians will not learn , while I was out today and stopped at the williamstown crosssing for 2 trains approaching and stopping a dog from running onto the tracks a woman on the opposite side decided not to wait for the 2nd train and walked across the track I couldn,t beleive that 2 people in the last few days would not WAIT for the bells to STOP ringing and the boom gates to rise. I just looked at her and shook my head and said you bloody idiot . :-( .

People should be aware when approaching railway crossings . just recently after the williamstown accidenr I saw a cylclist ride around the boomgates while an oncoming train was approaching. What an absolute IDIOT :-(

Surely you would be aware of approaching a crossing - quite a price to pay for this lack of attention to your safety.
Again, poor train driver, these drivers must be nervous wrecks.Faye Tuesday 11 October, 2011 - 10:11 AM -
Sorry Col you are wrong. We are all too quick to blame the government. I feel desperately sorry for the family of this young lady but unfortunately she paid the price for stupidity. There is no way that this state could possibly afford to place the network underground. People need to act more responsibly.

State Government's are to blame here if they had build most of our rail lines under ground we would not be talking about an other dead person.
