The 'critic in chief' on 3AW
Opposition leader Tony Abbott says he's not prepared to say why voters have warmed to the Coalition, but not to him personally.
All opinion polling shows the Coalition would convincingly beat the Gillard Government if an election were held now, but Mr Abbott's disapproval rating remains stubbornly above 50 per cent.
Some analysts say Mr Abbott's constant negativity is starting to grate on voters.
But Mr Abbott has told Neil Mitchell the Coalition remains the only viable alternative to get the country back on track.
Other Points Abbott Made:
- He's not as concerned with Julia Gillard's judgment 15 years ago as he is with her reactions, or lack thereof, to the current Craig Thomson scandal.
- He believes as Health Minister in the Howard Government he spearheaded policies that made Australians 'live longer'.
- He refused to say a potential deregulation of the employment industry is akin to Work Choices.
- He is not a very good horse rider.

Gillard tangled in Old AWU scandal
Julia Gillard is said to be 'furious' about an article in The Australian which implicates her involvement in ex-boyfriend Bruce Wilson's embezzlement of union funds. Listen to Neil Mitchell here, who reckons Gillard has reacted 'terribly' to this situation.

If Abbott becomes PM 3AW and MTR will switch format to beautiful music. Their work will be done :p

Neil, you & 3AW have run a consistent negative campaign against the current PM, and before that, Kevin Rudd. The ethos seems to be - disagree with everything Labor and blindly agree with everything that is Liberal/Conservative.
How is it that Abbott gets away with his lies, outrageous statements and his flip-flop on attitudes - he has no policies so can't refer to them as that. As for the economy, it is well documented that he has no understanding or appreciation of economics, so why not quiz him on some of his loony statements there. All governments have changed and failed policies during their terms. The constant negativity & harping on about a 'failed' government, Juliar etc, is driving the economy down and playing the mad monks game. Bottom line is no one 'won' the last election - same as in the UK. Therefore we have a coalition - just like the only way the liberals can govern is in coalition with the Nationals. That's democracy.ourjean Thursday 1 September, 2011 - 3:48 PM -
I agree, this government needs to resign, I have not spoken to anyone in favour of them. The most frustrating thing is that as an Australian i feel like we are not being heard and not being listened to. My partner is Irish and when his dad was out here in January 2011 he made a comment that i did not agree with at the time " Australian's are going down the same path the irish did before the crisis, Give it a year or two like this and you will be heading to a recession" well 9 months on i think it's fair to say we are looking very vulnerable and our government doesn't look like the can support the people through this.

Neil AH Mitchell, you want to have a lame duck Prime ministe. Then bring in your bash artist Abbott as leader then. Reamember where the real power lyse, it is in the , and how controls the senate now, it's the greens, and Abbott hate the greens, and the greens hates Abbott. He will not get anything though the senate. Then what will the people think of then Abbott.

TYPICAL AW, it's a real battle trying to get some semblance of neutrality & objectivity into any argument. Everything is generally PRO Liberal Party, PRO Abbott, or homophobic propaganda, deliberately designed to appeal to the mass feral mentality~! lol

AW, regardless of the amount of PRO Liberal Party/PRO Abbott propaganda you print & editorialize, 50% plus of all Australians have emphatically stated The Rabbit is NOT their preferred Prime Minister~!
