Melburnians are facing a cold Summer's day, with gusty winds up to 90 kilometres per hour and snow on the Victorian Alps.

The mercury dipped to 12°C in the city last night which the Weather Bureau says is three to four degrees below average for this time of year.

"It's in stark contrast after the heat wave of last week after where we were setting record November maximum temperatures," Senior Forecaster Phil King told the 3AW Newsroom.

The SES said there were a number of reports of damage sustained in the high winds, and they're expecting more calls as home owners awake to damage.

Winter ski resort Falls Creek had an unseasonal dump of snow overnight, with Mount Buller receiving a dusting yesterday.
