Yellow Wiggle debate rages on

There's speculation a battle of money is behind the shock return of original Wiggles member Greg Page to the group and the exit of his replacement.

Sam Moran took Page's place as the Yellow wiggle for five years while Page battled an illness.

It's thought Moran was mocked by the group over his $200,000-a-year contract while they raked in $28.2 million last year.

Anthony Field says it wasn't a difficult decision to drop Moran in favour of their old friend Page.

WEDNESDAY: The Wiggles say Greg Page, the original Yellow Wiggle, is reuniting with the world-famous children's entertainment group.

Sam Moran, who has been the Yellow Wiggle for the past five years, has 'graciously offered to step aside on hearing of Greg's ability to return to the group', according to a media statement issued by The Wiggles.

3AW Breakfast entertainment reporter Peter Ford tweeted moments after the announcement: ""Sam Moran hasn't reported his own departure on his website or twitter. Mmmm."

Greg resigned five years ago due to illness and now resumes his place alongside longtime friends Anthony Field, Murray Cook and Jeff Fatt.

"We thank Sam for his wonderful contribution to the group for the past five years. He joined at a difficult time for Greg and the group, and we’re so grateful for all he has done," said Wiggles Manager Paul Field.

"Sam is a gifted singer and we're pleased that Wiggles Productions will continue to support him by making Hot Potato Studios available to him for future projects."

Sam, now an ex-Wiggle, says he is excited about exploring new opportunities.

"I am very proud of my five years as the Yellow Wiggle and the group's continued success with me as their lead singer," said Sam Moran.

  • Sam was just an employee. Whatever the Wiggles made last year ($28.7m or so) is the conpany's earning and shouldn't be linked to individuals in the group. Sam took home $200,000 per yearly salary was obviously agreed between both parties and he should be grateful that he had the opportunity to be part of the group and made himself known. The original members built the Wiggles brand and worked so hard to achieve what they have today and Sam was never part of those effort, so yes thanks Sam but please move on.

  • Sorry Wiggles, but this leaves a really bad taste in one's mouth. I know that Greg was the original Wiggle but due to circumstances Sam was there and what a beautiful transition that was. My kids were sad when Greg left as that is the only yellow Wiggle they knew, have the Wiggles considered this? Children aged 5 and below only know Sam. Are the Wiggles going to continue wearing their coloured skivvies until they are 80?

  • A job well done Sam.
I think you are a real creep Page, worming your way back into this group.

  • I wonder if Greg had not got into so called financial difficulties, would he have returned? By the way, just how much is his Elvis collection worth? It's always about the money and Sam - you have been a truely dignified gentleman in the way you have handled yourself. At least your can spend quality time with your family - something they can't because they are still chasing the money. All the best for your future Sam.

  • I was intrigued when the first sentence Greg Paige uttered in an interview was "it is not about money".
