Burnley tunnel near miss
3AW listener 'Dan' phoned Denis Walter to have his say about road users and bad driving.
He sent through footage from a camera that he has mounted on the front of his truck to capture other drivers potentially doing the wrong thing on the road.
Have a listen to his call and watch the video for the white van that has a close shave with one of the trucks in the centre lane of the Burnley tunnel.
Have you seen motorists doing the wrong thing on the road? Send us your pictures to photos@3aw.com.au

I'd just like to point a few things out here. I was not speeding in the tunnel, nor was I driving in any unsafe, dangerous or illegal manner. I was in the left lane because I choose not to unnecessarily delay other motorists on the uphill section and always try to keep left wherever possible. I have no idea why everyone else chose to travel at 10 or more K/PH under the speed limit when traffic was rather light. Truck drivers see things like this every day, it's nothing new. The difference now, is that I can record events like this and show people our view of the road. The driver in the white van was foolish and very lucky. What the video doesn't show is how I steered to the left as far as I could and tried to avoid him. When driving a B-Double, or any truck for that matter, you develop a level of patience when it comes to dealing with inept motorists. It's no point getting angry. This individual would have put me in a very difficult situation if he'd clipped the other truck and lost control. This camera has a very wide angled lens, so he was a lot closer than it looks. If road users (of all kinds) showed a little more respect to each other, we would all be better off. Safe travelling, Dan.

I agree with Peter and it was the first thing i noticed. At the least, it is unwise to pass on the left hand side but this self righteous jerk seems to have no problem with it.
Maybe you could post some footage of when you tailgate / intimidate.Mark Wednesday 25 August, 2010 - 8:57 PM -
It is amazing that every car and truck in the tunnel are travelling at substantially less than the 80 kph speed limit as evidenced by the speed at which Dan's truck is passing them all. Of course Dan was sitting right on 80 kph. So how fast was the white van doing?

these motorists need educating on road use, maybe an advance driver education course. by the way i've done 4 of them,2 in a car, 1 on a motor bike and 1 in a semi. a must do for every one, and i install blue tooth hands free nd csr stereos for a living

No Suprise - I see this kind of thing every single day. IN fact I've come to the conclusion that half of these drivers must be driving without a licence. I mean if the police can catch John Burns doing 44 in a 40 zone, then I'm assuming these clowns have stacked up enough points to arguably have their cars destroyed.
