Opposition leader John Pesutto says he will “seriously look at” introducing a permit system for protests if he comes into power.

Numerous protests have brought the city to a standstill in recent months, with some turning violent.

Mr Pesutto says the nature of protests have changed over time and new laws should be considered to help reduce the safety risk at these events.

“I’d seriously look at it,” Mr Pesutto told Tom Elliott.

“We’ve reached a point in the evolution of our democracy where too many people think the right to protest is a right to harass others and engage in violence with others in our streets.”
