Vegie problems

  • Watch out for the cabbage white butterfly as they are fluttering around right now and will lay eggs galore to develop into green caterpillars. Net plants like cabbages and brussel sprouts or if the eggs hatch use derris dust.
  • Tomatoes are going black on the bottom, it is a problem called blossom end rot usually caused irregular watering or lack of calcium in the soil.
  • Beans with silvery leaves is usually caused by mites sucking the sap – you can use a miticide if you want or usually the beans will grow out of it.
