UPDATE: The suspicious package which caused the closure of Glenferrie Road in Malvern this morning has been deemed safe by the bomb response unit.

The package, which was found outside a Mexican restaurant, appears to have contained two hand-held fire extinguishers.

 

EARLIER: Glenferrie Road in Malvern has been closed in both directions following the discovery of a suspicious package this morning.

The bomb squad squad is en route.

Ross and John listener, Jonathan, says police have closed the road between High and Wattletree streets.

It’s not yet clear exactly where the suspicious package is.

Drivers are advised to take Kooyong and Tooronga roads.

Tram routes 5, 6, 58 and 72 are experiencing delays.
